LAP-Band Results

Dr. Collier received his Medical Degree from the University of Tennessee, after completing his Bachelor of Science degree in both Chemistry & Biology from George Peabody College in Nashville. In 1977, he completed his surgical residency at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis. He received additional training through a fellowship in bariatric surgery from UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas in 2003, which included gastric bypass.  That same year, he completed formal training for Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding (LAGB) and was certified by Allergan, manufacturers of the LAP-BAND®.  In addition, Dr. Collier and his staff completed training to achieve distinction as a LAP-BAND® Total Care Program, through Allergan.

Dr. Collier has completed other advanced courses in laparoscopic techniques, including laparoscopic colorectal surgery at Tulane University.  More recently, Dr. Collier completed two preceptorships in Gastric Sleeve Resection for weight loss.

Dr. Collier has been practicing general and vascular surgery in The Woodlands and Conroe areas for over 25 years.  He was one of the first surgeons to bring laparoscopic surgery to Montgomery County.  "I started doing laparoscopic surgery as soon as the technique became available in 1989, and have performed over twelve thousand procedures using the laparoscope, including gallbladders, hernias, colons, and hiatal hernia repairs for gastric reflux.  Recovery time is shortened and patients are able to return to regular activities much sooner than with open surgical procedures."

"I have a strong passion for helping people achieve their weight loss goals. There are a lot of surgeons who perform weight loss surgery, but many fail to provide the follow-up support needed to succeed post-operatively.  I make it my personal mission to be available to each patient not only for their physical adjustments, but for their nutritional and emotional changes as well."

Dr. Collier is on the Active Staff of

  • Conroe Regional Medical Center
  • St. Luke's Community Hospital
  • Memorial Hospital, The Woodlands

He also operates at the Surgery Center of Conroe, and University General Hospital, Houston.

In addition, Dr. Collier is a member of the Texas Medical Association, Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

"Helping people through bariatric surgery to lose weight and eliminate diabetes, hypertension, and other health related ailments associated with obesity, has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. Seeing the achievement of a healthy lifestlye  and the regaining of self-esteem in a patient simply cannot be described in words."
